Babies Cry April 16, 2008
It’s true. Some people think that crying is just something that a baby does ~ that they cry for “no reason”. I don’t believe that. They cry for a reason. Sometimes we don’t know the reason or can’t figure out the reason but there is ALWAYS a reason.
One great thing that I’ve found with all 3 of my children is that carrying them around is the best way to keep them feeling safe and secure and will eliminate one of the reasons that babies cry! When they were infants, they did NOT like slings of any kind, so I carried them on my shoulder or in a cradle hold ~ whichever was comfortable for me and them. When they got a little bigger, I started using a mayawrap and we love it!
Now I know what you’re thinking ~ holding or wearing them constantly will spoil them. Poppycock! I’m here to tell you that is not true. First off, even doctors say that it’s impossible to “spoil” an infant. I’m not saying that you NEVER put them down ~ of course you’re going to put them down to play with them or even to take naps, at times. (Although most times, when my children were babies, I also held them at nap time.) But they are newbies in this world and all their instincts tell them that they are to be near you. To hear your heartbeat, feel your warmth, hear your voice, watch you, learn from you…
So, when your baby cries and you’ve checked all of the usual culprits (diaper, food, etc..) ~ pick her up..hold her..carry her..let her know that you are there and give her the comfort and the security that only you can!
